The first leg at Camp Nou finished 1-1 after Xavi netted a last-gasp equaliser for Barca, cancelling out David Villa's opener.

The match at the Mestalla promised to be an equally close contest but Valencia started strongly and took the lead when Ruben Baraja rifled home a stunning effort in the 17th minute.

Juan Mata made it 2-0 on the night just a minute before half-time, but Thierry Henry hit back for Barcelona in the 72nd minute to set up a thrilling denouement.

Mata grabbed his second on 73 minutes to restore Valencia's two-goal cushion, only for Samuel Eto'o to strike with ten minutes still remaining.

Barcelona could not score again and Valencia survived to keep alive their hopes of picking up some silverware to compensate for an otherwise disappointing season.

Getafe booked their place in the final as they drew 1-1 with Racing Santander on Wednesday to secure a 4-2 aggregate victory.
